What are hair extensions?
Hair extension is a term for added additional hair – the extra length and volume is applied to the hair using various techniques such as nano or micro beads, weft (machine, genius or flat), tape and keratin methods.
Why are there so many types of extension?
Within the ever-evolving world of hair extensions there are many different methods and depending on your hair density, length and texture would determine what type and origin of hair.
What type of extensions should I have?
Extensions can be a personal and tactical. Your extensionist will help determine what is best to wear to ensure they are discreet and comfortable for your hair type and lifestyle. The methods commonly used are – Weft (sewn-in), nano-beads (1.5/2.5mm bead) or micro-beads (3-5mm bead), Bonded (Hot Fusion, K-Tip) and Tape.
How much do extensions cost?
This depends on your method, desired length, colour and texture – you also need to take into consideration the brand and type of extension, hair origin, amount of hair required and your stylists fitting fee. Usually hair can cost from £300 to £1600 depending on the latter plus your fitting cost – it really is an investment and should be seen this way.
Can I have an active lifestyle with extensions?
Yes, but you must remember their limitations. All hair is different, but we recommend – wearing hair in a plait or low ponytail, try to avoid friction and if there is any swimming soak the hair before entering the pool/sea and always use a leave-in conditioner after you have rinsed your hair with shampoo and conditioner. This also includes when on holiday, a UV spray is perfect for sun protection too.
Will my hair fade or discolour?
This is a possibility, especially for blondes. When on holiday some suncreams even when not directly applied to the hair can leave a pinky/peach tone staining the hair, this can sometimes be rectified using Malibu C but not always and is not a fault of the extensions.
Can I use any products on hair extensions?
Yes, but we recommend listening to your extensionist, if you use any other brand this could matt up the hair, cause damage or void any guarantee you may get with the brand purchased from. After spending so much money, it really is worth the investment to listen to your specialist. A paraben and sulphate free range is best.
