What is a hair system?
This is a modern technique and a non-surgical hair replacement solution which covers thinning and balding areas. When cut and styled correctly, the system blends seamlessly with your bio hair and creates a natural, fuller looking head of hair that gives you back your style and confidence.
What are the base types of hair systems?
Hybrid – Hybrid bases offer you both skin and lace textures, often with an invisible lace hairline depending on system chosen, some systems allow you to decide where you want airflow. Reinforced perimeters of the polyurethane base help prevent tearing and can extend the systems lifespan. The best of both worlds, and a great first system.
Poly (skin) – Polyurethane hair systems feature a thin skin which blends with the scalp offering a natural look. Due to the lack of breathability, poly systems especially in hot climates or those with an active lifestyle may find maintenance is more frequent.
Lace - Lace bases deliver the most breathability out of all systems allowing both air and water to pass through. The lifespan of lace systems depends solely on after-care, however we find full lace to be less desirable than hybrid and poly systems.
What is the difference between Chinese, European and Indian remy hair systems?
The main difference between these three hair types are hair density (hair thickness), natural texture and cost.
Chinese hair has 2x thicker density than European hair, is rigid, naturally smooth and can feel heavier in weight. European hair has is delicate, medium density yet is very versatile, smooth and can feel soft oppose to the other 2 options - comes with a higher cost due to being a rare choice and often has very few options colour wise. Indian hair has a more balanced density and shows more texture in a natural wave pattern, is versatile whilst styling and blends well with biological hair.
What does remy mean?
Remy hair describes the direction of the hair flow – cuticles are aligned professionally and carefully to reduce tangling.
Can only men have these systems?
No, these systems are designed for anyone. You may have seen them classed as Men’s hair systems, this is solely because there is scalp shaving involved – this is a part many women would rather avoid. However, this system design is perfect for those experiencing Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (FFA), alopecia totalis and universalis, androgenetic alopecia, sisipho and ophiasis to name a few.
Do I have to shave my hair for this system?
Mostly, yes. Unless the area is already free of hair or you choose clips as an application method – the area must be shaven down to enable the bond or tapes to adhere to the hair.
How is the system fitted?
A system can be fitted in 3 ways. This is by using a water-soluble bond such as Ghostbond, a hard bond (silicone based) such as Walker tape and tape tabs or cut offs from a roll. Clips can be used to secure hair systems if there is enough strong hair in certain areas to enable a grip.
Does the bond leak or the tapes slip?
Water-soluble bonds can leak depending on the duration they are left on the scalp. High temperatures can also have an effect as natural sweat is build up under the system and trapped within the bond – overtime forming a gooey bond with less hold, tapes are very similar, yet depending on placement of the tapes, these can be replaced every 1/3 weeks depending on your maintenance plan.

How often is maintenance – and can I maintain this at home?
Maintenance is between 2-6 weeks depending on your system, lifestyle and preferences.
Yes, many clients often do the maintenance in-between salon visits, this helps not only save cost but gives them the insight into knowing they can take control in a situation without panic if an emergency arose. It is always a great idea to know how to replace tape, bond or your full system.
What is the average cost of this service in the UK?
This is a hard question to answer, however estimates for an initial appointment are around £500-£1200 depending on your demographic and system. Maintenance can also be around £50-£120 every 2-6 weeks and most salons include a haircut in this costing. If you are looking for a more bespoke system, you could be looking at £1400+ all in.
